“What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”
I’ve been called sweet many times before, sometime the words chosen for me have been salty words or even sour words. However, only one time in all my years in SL have I been called by my name correctly. This happened about a month ago, a DJ from Italy said my name I almost passed out. My name has definitely sparked some conversations. “How do you say it?” “Is it Italian?” “What does it mean?” “Why not choose something simple?”
It is an Italian name, I am actually American with Italian descent and I wanted to keep the Italian in Ivo. Yes you can call me Ivo for short, wait… how do you say Ivo? Yup, you guessed it, that has not been easy either.
What does it mean? I have no clue, I made the name up by putting some syllables together. That was the genius behind it, it could have been gibbildy – gobeldy – gook or bippity boppety boo, but no I chose Ivoceno. It also explains why I didn’t choose something simpler, I just wanted the grouping of sounds to become something. I’ve seen reference to my name of having something to do with a volcano, but alas that does not rhyme with my name, or at least the proper pronunciation of my name.
OK OK how do you say it? The most common incorrect pronunciation is “eye-vo-see-no” shortened to “eye-vo”. I’ve heard “eye-vow-cee-now”, “eye-vo-k-no” and “dude wtf” Once, only once did someone say “eee – vo – chay – no” (ē -vō-CHā-nō) and it was so sweet, like a rose. When shortened you should say eee-vo (ē -vō)
